from November 2025 to March 2026.

Whatever you're interested in, this is for you. This special series of nine free talks on a variety of subjects, from street names to song contests and space to super powers, has something for everyone. There's a laugh-a-minute talk about Britain's highest pub, an astronomer explaining the Star of Bethlehem, and a heartwarming story about school life in The Gambia. What will you learn?

Welcome In Community Centre Leeds is a vibrant and inclusive hub nestled in North Leeds (LS16). A warm and inviting space, it serves as a gathering place for people of all ages and backgrounds. Renovated from a run-down pub it has been transformed to a fabulous facility with a community café, mini orchard, therapeutic gardening space and has a bright and cozy interior.

What lies behind the names we are so familiar with – the name of Leeds itself, our river, the major streets of the city centre, and some of the surrounding areas, once separate from Leeds, but now very much part of the city?

Educating The Gambia, with Paul Neimantas

In 2001, a couple from Bradford travelled to The Gambia and came across a school with 2,600 pupils and no books. They were looking to go on a holiday that was “hot and cheap”, to “chill out”. Twenty-five years later, they’ve funded and built countless nurseries, libraries and wells.
